Here's a Superman redesign I was toying around with.
Originally I was going to talk about this at the Project: Rooftop panel at Heroes Con, but I unfortunately had to duck out of the panel due to some busy-ness on my end. Annnnyway, here it is now with my two cents on its design.
I used the New 52 versions of the character as a jumping off point, trying to design a 'trunks-less' Supes that also utilized some piping in his uniform. I took some inspiration from Cory Walker in coming to a solution for his red trunks -- using a swatch of red in approximately the same place to visually break up the uniform. Thinking about the Grant Morrison t-shirt & jeans Supes, I was trying to figure a final costume that balanced a slightly sci-fi look alongside casual Americana. So I made the piping and cut of the upper portion of his uniform slightly resemble a softball t-shirt. The sleeve are 3/4 length to recall the visual of a workman rolling up his sleeves, and I have him wearing a workman's leather gloves to harken back to his beginnings as a farmer. Otherwise general design shapes abstractly form 'M's to counter against the repeat 'S's in his spit-curl and chest emblem.
So yeah. There you go.
